For these women, their weekly knitting sessions were more than just a hobby. It was a time of making something beautiful with their hands. The act of knitting prayer shawls was not just a craft, but a form of ministry and connection.
However, their peaceful gatherings were disrupted when their pastor decided to kick them out of the church in a desperate attempt to attract more members. This unexpected turn of events forced the women to find a new place to continue their tradition and learn that as important as prayer is connecting with people is a powerful way to share God's love.
Despite the challenges they faced, Margaret, Rose, Jane, and Fran remained resilient. They found a way to continue their meetings and knitting sessions, proving that prayer and reaching people were more important than any physical location.
This story teaches us the importance of community, creativity, and perseverance. It shows us that even in the face of adversity, we can find ways to come together, support each other, and create something meaningful.
I loved this book. There are many lessons to learn from this story.
I love the idea of knitting thread together to create something beautiful and useful. I listened to the audio version and it was very well done. Written by Sharon J. Mondragon.
This remarkable book takes readers on a dual timeline journey, introducing us to two sets of characters living in different time periods. In the post-Civil War era of 1875, we meet Hannie and Missy. Their stories are filled with heartache, resilience, and the power of faith.
Fast forward to 1997, where we are introduced to Bernedetta, a young teacher who decides to rent a house that was once a plantation. As she delves into the history of the house and the lives of those who lived there, she uncovers secrets and connections that will change her life forever.
This book is a true gem for several reasons. Firstly, the author's meticulous attention to historical detail brings both time periods to life, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and emotions of the past. Whether it's the struggles faced by Hannie and Missy or the discoveries made by Bernedetta, every page is filled with authenticity and depth.
Secondly, the themes explored in this book are both timeless and thought-provoking. Through the lens of faith, the characters grapple with forgiveness, redemption, and the power of love. Their journeys will inspire and challenge readers to reflect on their own lives and beliefs.
What truly sets this book apart is the masterful storytelling and the seamless transition between the two timelines. The author effortlessly weaves together the lives of the characters, creating a tapestry of emotions and connections that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.
Additionally, the book's exploration of faith is done in a way that is both respectful and thought-provoking. It doesn't shy away from difficult questions or shyly present answers. Instead, it invites readers to embark on their own spiritual journey alongside the characters.
If you're a fan of historical Christian fiction or simply enjoy a well-crafted story that will transport you through time, this book is a must-read. Its dual timeline structure, compelling characters, and exploration of faith make it a captivating and enriching experience. So, grab a copy, find a cozy spot, and prepare to be swept away on a journey you won't soon forget.

It started in 1987 and has since grown into a massive gathering of vendors, antique dealers, and treasure seekers. The sale typically occurs in early August and lasts for four days, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the country.
If you're a fan of vintage items, the World's Longest Yard Sale is a dream come true. Along the 690-mile stretch, you'll find an incredible variety of vintage furniture, clothing, accessories, collectibles, and more. From mid-century modern gems to retro kitchenware, there's something for every vintage enthusiast.
1. Plan your route: Before embarking on the yard sale adventure, map out the route and identify the must-visit spots. This will help you make the most of your time and ensure you don't miss any hidden gems.
2. Arrive early: The early bird catches the worm, and the same applies to yard sales. Arriving early gives you a better chance of finding unique items before they're snatched up by other shoppers.
3. Bring cash: While some vendors may accept card payments, it's always a good idea to have cash on hand. Smaller bills and change will come in handy for negotiating prices.
4. Keep an open mind: Yard sales are all about serendipity. Be open to unexpected finds and unique pieces that may not be on your shopping list. You never know what hidden treasures you might discover!
5. Negotiate politely: Don't be afraid to negotiate the price, but always do it politely and respectfully. Vendors are often willing to lower prices, especially towards the end of the day when they want to sell as much as possible.
During our recent trip to the World's Longest Yard Sale, we stumbled upon some incredible vintage treasures. One of our favorite finds was a vintage doll house. Its sleek design and size instantly caught our attention, and after some negotiation, we were able to bring it home.
We also discovered a collection of vintage vinyl records, including some rare albums from our favorite artists. The joy of flipping through the records and finding hidden musical gems was an experience like no other.
But perhaps the most beautiful find of all were plants. We didn't bring any home but they refreshed the day while out in the hot sun pounding the pavement.
Whether you're a seasoned vintage collector or just starting your journey into the world of retro treasures, the World's Longest Yard Sale is an event you don't want to miss. With its vast selection of vintage items and the thrill of the hunt, it's an experience that will leave you with unforgettable memories and unique finds.
]]>If your favorites have been out of stock they will be available soon. Plus we are working on new creations. We usually start making goat milk soap late spring - early summer. Have you ever wondered why we run out of soap so often? And why the long wait to get your favorites back in stock? The quick answer is we need milk to make soap. This year our goats had babies earlier than usual which has given us an early start to getting our soap made for the year. As soon as the babies do not need milk anymore we take the milk for soap making. We try to gage what varieties will sell the best and make as much as we think we will need.
Let us step you through the goat milk soap making process. First we start with measuring out our oils, lye and milk. The oils are gently heated. This step is important. You do not want the oil too hot or too cool. The lye is slowly added to frozen goat milk. I find when I use frozen goat milk we do not need to put the pot of milk in an ice water bath. This saves a lot of time which is crucial when you are trying to make all the soap you need in a short amount of time. We mix until all the lye has been incorporated into the milk. This leaves the milk completely melted. Extreme caution is needed when adding the lye. You want to do this process slowly and careful not to splash lye onto your face or skin. Next we add the lye-milk mixture to the warm pot of melted oils. Once it is fully mixed and comes to trace we can add any fragrance or essential oils if needed. We mix some more if a scent has been added. We then pour the soap into our soap molds. Twenty four hours later we cut the soap into bars and cure on drying racks for six weeks. The final step is cutting the fabric we use for packaging and hand wrapping every bar of soap. Then it is ready for you!

]]>We have all been home a lot since Covid-19 hit and I love being at home. It has given me an opportunity to slow down, read more, declutter and spend time with family. It has also been a good time to look around my house and give it a fresh look.

In general our lives have been so accustom to the hustle of everyday life. Then Covid-19 came along and stopped us all in tracks. ]]>In the 1990's I worked at a bakery next door to a Hallmark store. The Beanie Baby craze was crazy. As fast as some Beanie Babies were released they were retired. So getting your hands on your favorite plush cuteness was a challenge. Some people collected them as toys and some as a collectible items not be played with. What made Beanie Babies different than the rest was how they were under stuffed. Ty Warner said the under stuffing made the toys look real. Well, it certainly made them cute and collectible.
They have a heart shaped swing tag and a tush tag which doesn't always match. That made things even more collectible to a collector. At first the swing tag had "to" and "from" on the tag. In 1996 they started adding a poem and date of birth to the tag. When the Beanie Baby craze slowed down the company announced they would stop making them and made a bear named The End. Fans still love TY Beanie Babies so production continues. The toys from the 1990's are still collectible and a lot of fun to collect.
]]>Bookworms do exist. There are still those out there who love books made with paper, ink and binding, something you can hold in your hand. Digital books are great and I buy those too. Yet there is something about holding a book in your hand that keeps me from giving them up just yet. Maybe I'm just old school. I don't know. The look, the smell and the feel of a physical book still tugs at my heart.
You are not alone. There are still many people out there who buy books. We buy used and new books at auctions, estate sales, yard sales and outlets. When we see a good book we can't pass it up. Be sure to check out our books section on the Monkeymash Gifts dropdown option on our website.
]]>You're never too old to collect dolls. There are many reasons to collect dolls. Dolls can remind us of our childhood or an admiration for a certain time period or culture. When I was a child my cousin had the most beautiful porcelain doll. Even as a child I admired the artistry that went into making such a beautiful, fragile doll. I remember handling the doll with such care and wondering how old it must be. I'm not sure whatever happened to that doll but when I see porcelain dolls at estate sales and auctions it reminds me of our childhood playing at our grandma's house.
An expression of admiration is a good way to describe doll collectors. They have an appreciation for the artistry and imagination that goes into doll making. Whether you love Strawberry Shortcake, Barbie, Cabbage Patch Kids or dolls from all the world there is something to be said about collecting dolls. Modern, vintage or antique dolls are not off limit to collecting. When we come across auctions or estate sales with dolls it is hard to resist. That is why in our Monkeymash Gifts selection we offer dolls from all over.

A very hard combination to find, it's my new favorite!"

]]>Are you searching for goat milk soap? With a quick search you can find goat milks soap online from many great soap makers. Goat milk soap has gained popularity over the years. Not surprise considering how good it is for your skin. We started out with one goat over twenty years ago. Her name was Star and she was absolutely the best first goat we could have ever had. She was an adult goat when we got her from a farm in Zanesville, Ohio. She was sweet and gently and started my love of goats. She gave us so much milk we decided to start making our own goat milk soap. Most goat milk soaps are handcrafted by small business owners like us here at Chickenmash Farm.
Well, for starters most soap makers who make goat milk soap use natural ingredients and wholesome milk to create luxurious bars of soap. Most commercial soaps are not soap at all. Many commercial soaps are synthetic detergents. In general handmade bars of soap are made combining water and sodium hydroxide. Those of us that make goat milk soap replace the water with whole, pure goats milk. One benefit for using whole goats milk is the creaminess that is created in using milk instead of water. Goat milk is rich in fat which increases the moisturizing ability and naturally increases lather. Many soaps on the market use synthetic ingredients to increase lather. Another key ingredient we use in combination with the goat milk to create lather is coconut oil. All our handmade bars of soap lather nicely and create a creamy texture naturally. No synthetic ingredients are needed. Goat milk soap is gentle on your skin. It does not strip your skin of moisture but actually moisturizes your skin with vitamins and minerals.
A quick online search will help you find a great quality goat milk soap. Give goat milk soap a try and see for yourself how good your skin can feel.

]]>Tea enthusiasts you have a reason to get on board with collectibles. For the love of tea have you ever searched online for teapots? The designs, the styles, the different sizes and varieties are endless. I stumbled upon a tea enthusiasts collection and now I am in love with teapots. It's no wonder. I started singing "I'm a little teapot" as a child and had no idea the love of tea is so strong. I've been a fan of hot tea and iced tea for years but now I love collectible teapots. The love of tea spans thousands of years and over many cultures. It's no wonder there are endless styles of collectible teapots.
When I think of tea I think of family, friends, comfort and relaxation. When my daughter was a small child and had an upset stomach the first thing to do was to offer her a warm cup of chamomile tea. And you know what? It always made her feel better. My mom has been a tea drinker since I can remember. Now after a long day of work I look forward to sitting down to unwind and drink a cup of hot tea. No wonder there are tea enthusiasts out there! A warm cup of tea and warm thoughts of family is pure comfort.
Teapots are steeped into many cultures and traditions. Collecting teapots can be a lot of fun. There is bound to be a teapot out there that has your name written all over it. For me I just couldn't resist a goat teapot or a chicken. A teapot tells a life story. We found a large collection of teapots from an estate sale. I imagine the story the collector has with each and every one. Maybe it was a gift or marked a moment in life, a holiday or a fond memory. Whatever the reason it must be a good one. Even if you are not in the market to shop teapots take a look at the teapots in our Monkeymash Gift Collectibles.

]]>We might not be celebrating thanksgiving in the traditional way this year with a large gathering of family and friends but that does not mean we are not thankful. We still plan on cooking a turkey with all the fixings. I think of a quote from Dr. Edith Eva Eger. She told how her mother told her "we don't know what's going to happen, just remember, no one can take away from you what you put in your mind.
This year was a year of a lot of firsts. One thing Covid-19 has done is made families spend more time together and for that I am very thankful. A time of wearing masks in public that is a first for me and I imagine for most of us. It has been a year of no toilet paper on the shelves for another thing. We did what a lot of families did this year - used empty toilet paper rolls as craft projects for the kids. They had a great time. We made everything from mermaids to space aliens. We have been documenting and taking pictures of everything. We even made a Covid-19 time capsule book for each one of the grandkids. This is a time they can look back and remember time well spent together. Although thanksgiving might not look the way we want it to this year we can still take on the adventure that 2020 has given us and see where we go from here.
We especially want to take this time to tell you thank you for your support. No order is a small order to us. We know you work hard and couldn't be more thankful that you entrusted us to deliver quality products to your door.
Happy Thanksgiving, The Mash Family
]]>Different sizes, different colors, different makers and different styles. We couldn't resist the large array of glass shoes and boots from an estate sale. They are small enough to add to any home décor. Or a paperweight for the shoe lover. If the shoe fits why not display it. The small replica size is one of the lures of wanting to collect them. It is easy to display on a book shelf or on a window seal.
My favorite book as a child was the iconic story of Cinderella. How cute would it be to have your very own glass slipper to sit beside or on top your childhood favorite book Cinderella? The creativity people have for displaying such items is endless. Be sure to check out the glass shoe, boot and slippers from Monkeymash Gift collectables.
]]>Are you a Barbie collector? Or simply love Barbie dolls. Every Barbie has a story. There are many reasons why someone would want to hold onto a certain style of Barbie. Some commemorate an event like the Olympics or the holidays. I love finding auction and estate sales where the seller is a Barbie collector. Vintage Barbie's are my favorite finds. It is amazing to find a 20 year old Barbie that looks just as beautiful as the day it was made. In our Monkeymash Gifts toy collection you will find styles of Barbie from the collections we so thrilled to acquire.
American Toy Fair in New York City is where she first went on display in March of 1959. Ruth Handler was the woman behind Barbie and co-founder of Mattel. I love how Handler said she saw the need for children to imagine the future. As a child I had a Barbie collection like most little girls. And imagine the future I did with the big Barbie dream house in all its splendor. I spent hours playing with Barbie's. That is one reason why I cannot resist buying up the Barbie dolls I find at estate sales. I imagine the story that goes behind each collectors reason for collecting a certain Barbie and holding it close to their heart.

]]>The very first soap mold we ever made was designed and handmade on our farm which started our soap making journey. We hand poured many batches of goat milk soap in that wooden box before we retired it.
I remember the very first batch of soap we ever made. It was exciting and intimidating all at the same time. I researched goat milk soap making long before I ever made that first batch of soap. We made a wooden soap mold to hold thirty two 4-ounces bars of soap. We would carefully line the wooden soap box with wax paper, making sure to get no creases in the wax paper. Once the box was ready we could get started on soap making.
When we first started soap making my husband and I both worked full time. We would come home from work and stand in the kitchen making soap. One would read and reread each step carefully while the other one stirred. It took time and practice but we settled right into the soap making process. Starting is always the hardest part but once you do it feels like quite an accomplishment looking at milk and oil turn into amazing bars of soap, all held together in that wooden box that we made with our hands.
Not much has changed since then.
We still hand pour goat milk soap in our kitchen into soap molds. We let the soap sit 24 hours before we cut each bar by hand. Then each bar is put on curing racks for 6 weeks. Our wooden soap mold is now a display piece in our home and holds a special place in my heart. I love taking a moment to reflect on the beginning of our soap making journey.

During the Covid-19 lock down earlier this year many of us experienced no toilet paper, no bread, no disinfectant wipes and no pasta on the shelves. 2020 has been a tough year so far. I have made goat milk cheese, butter and of course our body care products but sourdough is a first for me. I remember in the 90's everyone trying to give away Amish friendship bread. I though "oh no not for me. It's too much work". Turns out this pandemic has taught me it's not too much work. It's pretty easy actually and I get to make delicious breads and this morning - bagels!
I made cheese, plain and everything bagels. The everything seasoning from Aldi's is fantastic. If you haven't tried it you should. I started my sourdough starter with regular white flour. It worked just fine. I searched all over for rye flour as a starter because I read it's a good one to start with but no luck finding it any stores around the Columbus, Ohio area. So If you can't find flour that a recipe recommends don't worry plain regular flour works just fine.
I know we have done many craft projects with the grandkids and cleaing out closets. I have also been doing bible studies with women from church. It's been a great time to get closer to God and see what all we can do from home.
