Porcelain figurine of Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby. They were name Llangollen Ladies because of their move to Llangollen, North Wales in 1780 to escape the social pressures of conventional marriage. This figurine stands 6" tall. The only marking on the bottom is a red "m" or "w". They are dressed in black and white and one is holding a black umbrella.
We obtained this item from an estate sale among many other antiques. One of the black hats has a very small chip where the black paint is missing. It does not feel rough or chipped but their is a small amount of paint missing. See photos. This is a rare find. We have not seen many of these for sale.
