A Porch Goose and a Lot of Memories

Growing up, my grandmother had a porch goose. She dressed that goose for every season imaginable. Christmas outfits, summer ensembles, and everything in between. On rainy days, the goose wore a raincoat and little boots. It was simply part of Grandma's porch, as natural as the rocking chairs and the welcome mat.

My Grandparents' House

My grandparents were the best. You could drive by and see my grandma's porch goose standing watch while my grandpa worked in the yard or as he walked around the neighborhood with a clipboard taking one of his surveys. It was the kind of quirky, charming detail that made their home feel full of warmth and memories. At the time, I never thought much about it. It was just part of life.

A Tradition That Came Back Around

I never imagined that years later, my own daughter would be doing the very same thing with her goose.

Recently, while sourcing items for our store, I came across several goose collectibles, and it brought all those memories rushing back.

It reminded me just how popular geese once were. They appeared on kitchen towels, figurines, cookie jars, wall art, and, of course, front porches dressed for every occasion.

Why Vintage Goose Collectibles Still Matter

That's one of the reasons I enjoy finding vintage goose collectibles. They're more than decorations. They're reminders of grandparents, childhood homes, and simpler times.

Every time I see one, I think about my grandmother changing outfits on her porch goose. And now, seeing my daughter do the same thing makes me smile.

More Than Just a Decorating Trend

It's a small tradition passed down through generations, a thread connecting family memories through something as wonderfully ordinary as a dressed-up goose on a porch.

Maybe that's why these collectibles still make people smile. They remind us of the people, places, and moments that stay with us long after the decorating trends have come and gone.
