I’ve always loved books. Whether it’s a well-worn paperback, a new release on my Kindle, or an audiobook playing in the background while I work, books have always been part of my everyday life.
There’s just something about holding a physical book in your hands. The feel of the pages, the look of them lined up on a shelf—it’s different than anything else. It’s not just about reading, it’s about the experience.
Lately, while sourcing items for our website and eBay shop, I’ve found myself drawn more and more to books. They’re easy to overlook at first, but once you start paying attention, you realize how much character they bring with them.
Books are one of those items that always carry a story beyond the words inside them. A small crease in the cover, a handwritten name, or even a bookmark left behind—it all adds to their history.
Every time I find a good group of books while sourcing, it feels like uncovering a small piece of someone else’s life. What were they reading? What did they love? What kept them turning the pages?
That’s part of what makes collecting books so enjoyable. It’s not just about what they are—it’s about where they’ve been.
Books aren’t just for reading—they’re one of the easiest ways to add warmth and personality to your home.
I’ve started using them more as part of my decor, and it’s surprising how much they can change a space. Stacked on a table, lined along a shelf, or even used as a base for other items, they bring a layered and collected look that feels natural.
One of my favorite displays recently was using a small stack of books as a centerpiece, with a vintage bird decor piece nestled on top. It was simple, but it instantly made the space feel more thoughtful and put together.
One of the things I’ve learned over time is that good books are everywhere—you just have to know where to look.
I often find them at estate sales, auctions, and tucked away in places most people pass by. Sometimes they’re part of a larger collection, and other times they’re just a small stack waiting to be noticed.
That’s part of what makes it fun. You never know what you’re going to find, and each one has the potential to become part of someone else’s story again.
In a world where so much is digital, there’s something grounding about physical books. They slow you down. They give you something to hold onto.
Even though I enjoy reading on my Kindle and listening to audiobooks, I always come back to having real books around me. They create a feeling you just can’t replace.
And when you find them out in the wild—at sales, shops, or tucked away somewhere unexpected—it makes them even more special.
That’s part of what we love most here at Chickenmash Farm—the chance to find pieces like these and pass them along, whether it’s a good book, something handmade, or a unique item with its own story waiting to continue.
