One of the things I enjoy most while sourcing is finding vintage linens. Tablecloths, embroidered runners, handkerchiefs, and pillowcases may seem simple, but they often tell a story of time, patience, and creativity.
What I find interesting is that many of the skills used to create these pieces haven't disappeared. In fact, it seems like more people today are returning to them.
I've noticed a growing appreciation for handmade things. People are learning to sew, crochet, embroider, bake from scratch, and create things with their own hands. Many of those skills were once passed down from parents and grandparents and are now finding a new audience.
When I pick up a vintage embroidered handkerchiefs, I sometimes wonder who made it.
Was it a grandmother teaching a daughter to sew? Was it something made for a wedding gift? Did it take weeks or months to complete? I'll never know all the answers, but it's easy to see that someone invested time and care into creating it. That's something I think many people appreciate today.
In a world where most things can be purchased with the click of a button, there's still something satisfying about creating something yourself.
Whether it's a handmade quilt, a loaf of bread, a crocheted blanket, or a bar of soap, the process becomes part of the story.
Maybe that's why vintage linens still resonate with so many people. They remind us that beauty can be found in everyday objects and that ordinary things can become meaningful when they're made with care.
When I find vintage linens, I don't just see fabric. I see creativity. I see patience. I see someone taking the time to make something beautiful for their home or for someone they loved. And perhaps that's why these pieces continue to be appreciated today. The desire to create hasn't disappeared. It has simply found a new generation.
